Sunburned by the night

the wild is silent
the king is absent
the horns announce no arrival
the flower's petals lie upon the ground
the tears evaporate from the sidewalk
the tick of the toc of the lifetime
the incessant ringing of memory
the dead tug at my kite tail
tumbling, out of control, gliding
lifted by the refreshing breeze
the thrill gone and out of breath
I caress the earth
